"Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel."

My Thoughts:

So I really dont know why I haven't read this book sooner. I started this book one night before bed and the next thing I know it is 4am and I'm finishing up the book. The story will captivate you from the moment you pick up the book and the rest of the world will cease to exist. Shatter Me manages to combine dystopian with paranormal perfectly.

I really liked our heroine Juliette, partly because I really love her name and partly because she shows a lot of growth throughout the novel. While she is not the strongest heroine out there, she really comes into herself. She is selfless and giving and genuinely good in a world where everyone has turned their back on her.

Adam is a great hero. He is everything you could want in a hero. He is enraptured by Juliette from the beginning, even though Juliette doesn't see it, but the reader picks up on it right away. He manages to be sweet, fierce, strong, and intense all at once.

Is it wrong that I kind of like Warner? I am really starting to think there is something seriously wrong with my brain. Warner has some serious issues, but I couldn't completely hate him. In real life I would totally consider him my frenemy. It is obvious that there is much more to his story and I really want to know what that story is. While he has got that bad boy exterior down pat, I know there is a sweet guy in there somewhere.

The writing was beautiful, but it took a little bit for me to get used to it, especially at the beginning. At times I felt as if I was reading a stream of consciousness and while this helps the reader to understand Juliette and exactly how she was feeling, it was also a bit confusing. I felt like I was in Juliette's head and therefore a bit crazy in the beginning. It helped me understand the character, but it hurt my head a little bit. Also, if I saw one more strikeout I was going to scream. I understood the point behind them, but I just don't like them in general. They efficiently showed what Juliette was thinking and didn't want to say, but I have always hated reading them. I think my mind just rebels against reading something that is crossed out. This really has no bearing on the story, I just wanted to vent about it.

Overall Shatter Me is quite good. I really should have picked this book up a long time ago. It is everything you could want in a dystopian as well as a paranormal novel.
