"Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story...
Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
And she, for whatever reason, spares his life."

My Thoughts:

Anna Dressed In Blood is not the type of book I would normally pick up, mostly because it deals with ghosts, and ghosts give me the creeps. I don’t know why, they just do; they always have.  So I really don’t know what prompted me to pick up this book. Maybe it was all the recommendations on Goodreads or possibly the pretty cover. However I think it was the title itself, it just rolls off the tongue. “And besides, I wanted to see her, dressed in blood.”

With all of that being said, I am also very happy that I did decide to give Anna Dressed In Blood a go. It was very different from any book I have ever read (probably due to the “I don’t read about ghosts” thing), but its difference make it refreshing. I was intrigued from the very first page, and putting the book down was painful. I easily became invested in Cas and Anna’s story. Now, that is not to say the book didn’t give me the creeps, because it did. It will keep your adrenaline pumping and have you looking over your shoulder.

Cas is a good lead and I really enjoyed reading from his point of view. Books from a guy’s point of view are few and far between, and sometimes I find that I enjoy a guy’s point of view best. Cas is not your normal teenager. Firstly, his full name is Theseus Cassio. Secondly, he hunts ghosts and it is a lonely job. He doesn’t have friends; all he really has is his Mom. His life is far from normal, but this doesn’t seem to bother him. He feels that it is his responsibility to hunt ghosts, just don’t call him a ghostbuster, he doesn’t appreciate that.

Now, on to Anna. What can I say about Anna? Well, she is terrifyingly beautiful and tormented and very very scary. Anna is a murderous ghost who rips anyone who enters her house into shreds. However, there is a lot more to Anna and her story than meets the eye. It is hard not to feel sorry for her when you finally discover her past. While she is an incredibly scary ghost, she is also a great character to read about.

The ending to Anna Dressed In Blood left me wanting more. The story has conclusion, no crazy cliffhanger, but there is the definite promise for more to the story. I truly enjoyed every single page I read and never reached a point where I was bored. Anna Dressed In Blood gives you horror, suspense, drama, and even a touch of love. You will not be disappointed with this book.

  4. I, too, tend to not read books about ghosts. It's not so much that they freak me out, but that the concept can easily go wrong. I'm still on the fence, but this is a great review! Perhaps I should take a leap of faith and pick this one up :)

  6. This book has such an intriguing cover. I loved it when I first saw it, yet I still haven't read it. I'm not sure if I want to, considering there are cookie cutter characters in it... and I need a good character! Cas sounds like a fun guy though.
